Sequel to Until The Day of Hearts

Surprises

Chapter 1
When the plane landed, Holli was exhausted. They had a two-hour layover in St. Louis because of weather, so it was seven o’clock before they even landed in Little Rock. When she finally found Erin and Aunt Jane, she was ready to get back to the dorm and collapse. Since they had went to Beebe before going to the airport Aunt Jane drove back while Holli and Erin talked.
“So, tell me all about it. What all did you do?”
“Most of the time the week of the concert was spent shopping with Sondra, Jeff’s fiancée, and Jessica, Nick’s girlfriend.”
“Jeff’s engaged? Since when?”
“Since he proposed on stage at the concert. I will tell you all about it later. Right now, all I want to do is sleep.” So for the next little while Holli just laid back and rested. Almost to Beebe her cell phone rang and Erin answered, “Hello.”
“Erin, is Holli okay? She’s not answering her dorm room. Wait a minute, why are you answering her phone?”
“Drew, calm down. She’s fine. Her plane was two hours late. She’s in the back asleep. Do you want me to wake her?”
“No, she must be exhausted. Just tell her I called and that I love her.”
“Okay, I’ll tell her. Bye.” When they got back to Beebe, Aunt Jane and Erin helped Holli carry all her things in. After they left, Holli went down and talked to Ms. Judy for a few minutes before she went to bed. She had to be at work at 8:00 the next morning and classes started at two-thirty.
The next morning when her alarm clock went off at six-thirty, Holli groaned not wanting to get up. She finally got to the shower about seven and then went to grab some breakfast before heading to work. The only person in the cafeteria was her friend Blake.
“Hey stranger. How was your break?”
“Good morning Blake. It was wonderful. I just got back last night. How was your break?”
“It was good. Yeah, I heard you got to go to Colorado.”
“I went out with my boyfriend and his family. I hate to do this Blake, but I’ve got to go to work. See you in class.”
“Okay, see you later.”
Holli still managed to beat everyone to work. When Lance arrived, he told her he was sorry, and that he had a key for her. “So what time are you going to need to leave this afternoon?"
“Well, on Monday and Wednesday I’ll need to leave at 3:15 and Tuesday and Thursday I’ll need to leave at 2:15. I can work all day on Friday’s.”
“That sounds good. I’ll introduce you to everyone when they get here. Everything is just as it is at Larry’s. He tells me your good at working with the Emerald. I think that machine hates all of us. So, I would like you to work on that some. You know procedures on everything right?”
“Yeah, if I don’t I can always ask. Do you want me to go ahead and unlock the front?”
“Sure, the others should be here before long.” They were busy all morning with minor things until around eleven, then things got crazy. Nothing went right. They were all glad when the last patient left about 12:15 so they could close for lunch.
“Holli, coming to lunch with us,” Melodie asked.
“Nah, I’m going to go back to the cafeteria today.”
“Alright, see you at one.” When Holli got to the cafeteria she got her tray to go since none of her friends where in there. When she got to her room, she booted her computer up to check her mail. About that time, the phone rang. “Hello.”
“Hey sweetheart. How’s work going?”
“It’s going okay. Why didn’t you call last night?”
“I did call. Didn’t Erin give you the message?”
“Nope, she didn’t say a word. How has your day been?”
“Relaxing. I just got up a little while ago.”
“Oh hush, I’ve been up since seven. When do you all go into the studio?”
“Tomorrow I think. What time do you have class?”
“Not until three-thirty, but I have to be back at work in fifteen minutes so I guess I better go. I love you.”
“Love you too. I’ll talk to you later.”
When Holli got back to work she sat down in front of the Emerald and began making an attempt in filing all the claims. She was still sitting there two hours later when she realized she needed to leave.
“Dr. McGraw, I’m leaving now. I’ll see you in the morning.”
“Okay, have a good afternoon in class.”
Holli spent the rest of the afternoon finding out exactly how busy she was going to be. Shelbie asked Holli to go out and eat with her after class so that they could talk.
“So, did you have fun over break?”
“Oh my gosh Shel. We had so much fun. Jeff proposed to his girlfriend on stage during the concert.”
“I would have died. How did she react?”
“She broke down in tears. So, what’s on your mind. I can tell Shel, what’s going on?”
“Nothing, I just wanted to hear about your trip.”
“Shel, don’t lie to me. I can read you like an open book.”
“Well, its Jason. I think he’s drinking again.”
“What! I thought you said he had quit all that. You need to get out of there before he starts abusing you again.”
“Holli-Belle, I would, but I don’t have anywhere to go. Mom told me that if I went back to him that I couldn’t move back in.”
“Talk to Ms. Judy. I’m sure she’ll let you move back in.”
“I’ll think about it. I promise. First time he hits me I’m gone this time.”
“That’s good. What do you think of all our classes this time?”
So the rest of the evening was spent with them talking about school and family. When Holli got in she had a message from her dad for her to call him when she could. So she decided she might as well do that before she stared unpacking. “Hello.”
“Hi Jennifer, is my dad there?”
“Yeah, just a sec Holli.”
“Hey little-bit.”
“Hey daddy. Thanks for the gifts and pictures.”
“Your welcome. What time do you get out of class tomorrow?”
“Five, why do you ask?”
“Well, me, Jennifer and Marrissa would like to take you out to eat for your birthday. Also I want you to meet your other sister and niece.”
“Okay, I’ll have to come in and change clothes, but I can be ready by say twenty ‘til six.”
“That’s fine. We’ll see you tomorrow.”
“Okay daddy. Just call from the lobby.”

Chapter 2
The next morning Holli was awakened by the phone ringing. “Its to early for this, so it better be good.”
“Wow sweetie you sure are a grouch this morning.”
“I’m sorry baby. I didn’t figure it was you this early.”
“Well, I just wanted to be the first to wish you a Happy Birthday.”
“Thank you. I miss you.”
“I miss you too. If I could I would be there.”
“I know sweetie. I have to go out to dinner tonight with my dad and family. I even get to meet my other sister and niece.”
“You don’t sound thrilled about it.”
“Its not that I don’t want to go it’s just that I wish it was going to be just like it normally is.”
“Oh, now I see. I take it that this birthday dinner is something usually just between you and your dad.”
“Yep. Babe, I hate to go, but I still need a shower before I go to breakfast.”
“That’s fine, I need to get ready myself. Love you.”
“Love you too. Talk to you later.”
Holli hung up and rushed off to the shower. When she got to work she sat down in front of the Emerald and began to tackle the mounds of paper work. About nine-thirty Miranda hollered at Holli, “Can you take a break and come up and help with a cleaning. I’m helping Doc and Melodie already has one cleaning in two.”
“Sure thing Miranda.” So Holli got up and went to the front. She picked up the file from Emily, the receptionist, and called the patient back. It turned out the patient was Ms. Judy, so they began talking about Shelbie.
“So, how are you liking your private room?”
“Its okay, but I wish Shel would move back in. It would be better for her.”
“Yeah, she’s supposed to come see me this afternoon before class.”
“Yeah, I think she’s wanting to move back in.”
“That’s fine with me. Especially if it will get her out of a bad situation.”
“Oh trust me Ms. Judy, anything is better for her then being with Jason.” When Holli finished the cleaning she told Ms. Judy that Dr. McGraw would be in just a few. As Holli went to get the x-rays she stuck her head in room three to tell Doc that the patient in one was ready.
“Okay, Holli. Have you got the x-rays yet?”
“Yeah, I’m going to get them from the developer now.”
“Did you find anything when you were cleaning?”
“Yeah, a couple possible ones.”
“Alright, I’ll be right in.” After Ms. Judy left Holli did a couple more cleanings before lunch. As they were leaving Holli asked where they were going. “Mazzio’s if they’re not too busy. You coming?” asked Dr. McGraw.
“Yeah I think so. I’ll meet y’all there.” Holli ran by the dorms to grab her book bag and take something for her headache. When she got to Mazzio’s she easily found the table. “So Holli, tell us about yourself. If we’re going to be working together we might as well get to know each other.”
“Well Melodie what do you want to know?”
“What are you going to college for?”
“I’m an early childhood education major. Which basically means I’ll be able to teach pre-school through fourth grade.”
“Wow, I don’t think I could handle that age group. You must really like kids.” Melodie stated.
“Oh, I do. I love working with children.”
“Do you have any of your own,” Miranda asked.
“Not yet, but I want some. I have to get married first though.”
“I talked to your boyfriend this morning. He sounded really sweet,” Emily said.
“You talked to him this morning?”
“Yeah, he wanted to know what time you got off.”
“That’s strange, he lives in Cincinnati and is working all day.”
“I don’t know, but that’s what he asked.”
“Ladies I hate to interrupt, but we need to head back to the office,” said Dr. McGraw.
When they got back Holli started working on the computer again. About one-thirty Emily called her up front. When she got to the front there were six purple roses and three white roses and three balloons. When she read the cards the one from Drew almost made her cry. About that time Dr. McGraw came out of one of the rooms. “I didn’t know this was a florist shop,” he said jokingly.
“What can I say, my boyfriend and his co-workers love me.”
“Well, since it’s your birthday why don’t you head out early so you can drop all that off at the dorms before class.”
“Thanks Doc. See everybody tomorrow.”
Holli dropped off her flowers and checked her email before heading to class. There she found three cards. Just as she was about to leave there was a knock on the door.
“Come in, its open.”
“Would you happen to want a roommate back?”
“Oh my gosh Shel of course.”
“Okay, I’ll move in after class.”
“That’s fine. I’ve got to go out with my dad and his family. Let’s go to class.” They headed to class and were lucky enough to get out early of their last one. As Shelbie started moving her stuff in Holli headed to the showers before getting ready for her birthday dinner. Holli had just finished getting ready when there was a knock on the door. So she got up to answer it. When she opened the door Marrissa jumped into her arms saying, “Happy Birthday sissy.”
“Thank you Marrissa.”
“Well, I guess I don’t have to ask if you’re Holli, huh,” Stephanie said jokingly.
“Nope, you must be Stephanie.”
“Yeah, that’s me. Dad said we looked alike, but we could almost pass for twins.”
“We sure could. Come on in and let me grab my purse.” When Shelbie came back in Holli introduced Stephanie.
“I’ll see you later Shel. If anybody calls tell them I’ll call back later. If it’s important I do have my cell.”
“Okay. Have fun. Nice to meet you Stephanie.”
“You too Shelbie.”
The rest of the evening was fun. Alexas, Stephanie’s daughter, was a little doll, but Marrissa showed some jealousy because Holli was having to split her time between Marrissa and Alexas. When Holli got back to the dorms she had two messages, one was from the guys and Sondra wishing her a happy birthday and the other was from Jessica, who was on the road.

Chapter 3
“Holli-Belle your mail is on your desk. I’m going to the library to do some homework.”
“Okay Shel. You didn’t lock the door did you?”
“Yeah, I thought you had your keys. Sorry.”
“That’s okay.” “Ms. Judy can you let me in my room please?”
“Sure thing. It’ll be just a minute though.”
“That’s fine. I’ll finish typing my report.” When Holli got down to her room she found the envelope on her desk. When she opened it she found the information from Sondra that she needed and a copy of the wedding announcement. As she sat down and started reading all the information she found that she would only be losing three hours, and could still graduate as expected. So that night when Drew called she told him all about what she had found out.
“That’s wonderful baby. So how is school and work going?”
“They’re both fine. I have been so busy. I’m ready for a break already.”
“I bet you are. But just think in March you’ll be making the trip up here and we will be together for an entire week.”
“I know. I can’t wait, I wish I could see you before then. I miss you so much.”
“I miss you too Holli, but we both know that there is no way to see each other before Spring Break.”
“Hey I can wish can’t I. Its just not fair.”
“It’s not fair, but neither is life. So how’s Shel doing?”
“Pretty good. At least she’s back in the dorms and away from Jason. She’s really down in the dumps though. I know she likes someone, but she won’t tell me who.”
“Is she there? Maybe she’ll tell me.”
“Just a minute let me give her the phone.”
“Hey Drew. What did you want to ask me?”
“Well, Holli says your down in the dumps. She’s worried about you and says there is something you’re not telling her. I was just wondering if you wanted to talk about what’s bothering you.”
“There is something, but there’s nothing I can do about it so I’m just trying to let it pass. Its really hard not being able to talk to Holli, but I don’t think she would understand.”
“Well, how about talking to me about it? I’ll play the neutral person.”
“Okay. It’s just that I really like this guy, but I don’t think its mutual.”
“How long have you known this person?”
“Since October, but I haven’t seen him since. This is ridiculous I’m acting childish.”
“Tell me who it is and I’ll tell you if he is available.”
“Oh all right. Its Justin. You probably think I’m crazy. Please don’t say anything to him.”
“Calm down Shel. I won’t say anything, but he is single.”
“Thanks for telling me. Do you want to talk to your girlfriend now?”
“Sure. I promise I won’t say a word”
“Bye Drew.”
“Okay Hol your assumption was right, but if we act on it we’ll have to be careful.”
“Yep, this may take sometime but it is possible. Well, I guess we better get off the phone, I have a test tomorrow that I need to study for.”
“Okay. I’ll talk to you later. I love you.”
“I love you too. Bye.”
Chapter 4
“Shel, we don’t have anything due this afternoon do we?”
“Not that I know of. Why do you ask?”
“Miranda is sick and they need me to work until close.”
“Okay, I’ll take good notes. See you later.”
About one o’clock Holli received a dozen fire ice roses from Drew for Valentines. It made her miss him even more than normal.
“Holli, can you get x-rays of the patient in three for me. I’m helping with a filling,” Melodie asked.
“Sure thing. I just finished the last of the Medicaid claims.” Holli went into exam three and didn’t even look at the patient, but went straight over and got gloves and looked at the chart.
“Okay Mr. La…” Turning around quickly Holli was shocked to find Drew standing there. “Oh my goodness! What are you doing here,” she exclaimed running into his arms.
“I just wanted to surprise you. Remember what the note said.”
“All it said was ‘Until the day of …’ I just now figured that out. The day of hearts was Valentines Day.”
“Yeah, nice little pun huh.”
“Yeah real cute. How did you get in without me seeing you?”
“Miranda gave me her key to the back door.”
“What? Miranda’s out sick.”
“No I’m not Holli. I was at the airport picking him up,” Miranda said as she and everyone else walked in.
“You mean you were all in on this.”
“Yeah they all were babe. I didn’t know how else to surprise you. And I knew Shel wouldn't be able to keep a secret like this from you.”
“Well Holli, since Miranda is here why don’t you go ahead and leave. Have fun tonight,” Dr McGraw said. When they left Holli ran by the dorms to get some clothes and leave Shelby a note. When they got to Drew’s hotel room Holli asked, “So how long do you get to stay?”
“I get to stay all week. We decided to take a week off.”
“That is wonderful. You can go with me Saturday to celebrate my dad and sister’s birthday’s.”
“Cool. So where is a good place to go eat or do we have to go into Little Rock?”
“You’re joking right. Good places to eat here. No way, we’ll have to go into Little Rock.”
“Okay, go change clothes unless you want to wear your scrubs.”
“Give me just a minute.” As Holli got ready, she asked Drew how Sondra’s wedding plans were going.
“They’re going fine. She has ordered her dress finally. She can’t wait until you come up to help.” They ended up going to the Capital Restaurant for dinner. The week was the best Holli had had over the years. On Friday night after she got off work they went back to Little Rock to find her dad and sister a birthday present and then went to the trailer for the night.
“What time do we have to be at your dad’s tomorrow, sweetie?”
“I don’t know. I was just about to call Jennifer to find out.”
Drew went into the living room while Holli went to get the phone.
“Hello.”
“Hi Stephanie. Is Jennifer home?”
“Not right now, she ran to the store. Do you want me to have her call you?”
“Yeah, she can call me at 998-2520.”
“Okay sis. I’ll tell her. Bye.”
“What time dear?”
“Don’t know, Jennifer wasn’t at home.”
“Oh well, what do you want to do?”
“I don’t want to do anything but spend time with you.”
“That sounds good to me. Come here.” Holli walked over to where Drew was sitting and cuddled up beside him. He reached down and turned her face up to his and he began kissing her intimately. He began running his had down her spine and then pulled her into his lap as the phone started ringing. As they broke apart breathlessly Drew whispered “Let the machine get it.”
“I can’t do that, it may be Jennifer.” Holli said as she moved to get up. Drew reluctantly let her up. “Hello.”
“I was wondering if you were home,” Jennifer said.
Holli walked back into the living room and grinning said, “Sorry, I was a little uh preoccupied.”
“Oh I understand. Sorry if I interrupted anything.”
“That’s okay. I just wanted to let you know I would be bringing my boyfriend with me.”
“That’s fine with me. Anything else?”
“Yeah, what time do we need to be there?”
“Well, I’m hoping to have everything ready by eleven.”
“Okay, do we need to bring anything?”
“Not that I know of. Need anything else?”
“Nope, that’s all. See you tomorrow. Bye”
When Holli hung up Drew reached up and pulled her down to him. Laughing as she fell Holli wrapped her arms around his neck. As they began kissing again they were once again interrupted by a knock on the door. Pushing away to answer the door Drew grumbled something about “it not meant to be.” When he answered the door Erin gasped “Oh, hi Drew. I didn’t know you were here.”
“That’s okay come on in.”
“Is Holli here?”
“Yeah she’s in the living room.” As they walked in Holli was walking in carrying two glasses of Dr. Pepper. “Oh hi Erin, have a sit.”
“I’m sorry you two. I just thought Holli was home.”
“That’s okay Erin. What do you need?”
“I was just bringing your mail over and this newspaper clipping.”
“Thanks Erin. What’s the clipping?”
“Here read it.” Holli reached for the clipping and began reading. She couldn’t believe what she was reading. Wiping her tears away she turned to Erin. “Why didn’t you call me?”
“I’m sorry I didn’t know about it. Mom just gave me this stuff to bring over.”
“What is it babe?”
“One of Shelbie and my friends was killed in a house fire a couple weeks ago.”
“I’m sorry sweetie. What else did you get?”
“Probably all bills. Let’s see: light bill, insurance, doctor bill, water/garbage, and cable bill. See told you. That’s all there ever is.”
“How have you been Erin?” Drew asked.
“Pretty good. Well, I guess I’ll leave you two alone. See you later.” As they watched Erin leave they grinned at her quick exit. Reaching for Drew, Holli asked, “Now, where were we?”

Chapter 5
The next morning when the alarm went off Holli quietly slid out of bed and went to the shower. When she returned to the bedroom she found Drew sitting on the edge of the bed. Crawling over to him from her side she wrapped her arms around his neck and whispered. “Good morning sunshine.”
“Good morning.”
“Sleep well?”
“I sure did. What time is it and what time do we need to leave?”
“Well, its eight now and we need to leave by ten. What do you want for breakfast?”
“What ever you want is fine. I’m going to grab a quick shower.” As Holli began getting ready she realized she could get used to living everyday with Drew. When they got to Holli’s dad’s house Holli was attacked by two little ones.
“Slow down munchkins.”
“Come back here Alexas Nicole,” Stephanie shouted. Bending down to pick Marrissa up Holli kissed Alexas and told her to go back to her mom. With Marrissa in her arms Holli turned to Drew and said, “This little munchkin is my sister Marrissa.”
“I’m pleased to meet you, Marrissa.” When Drew spoke to her, she buried her head in Holli’s shoulder. “Marrissa, don’t act like that. Where’s your mom and dad?”
“In the kitchen.”
“Okay lets go. You’re getting heavy, I’m going to have to put you down.”
“I’ll carry you, Marrissa,” Drew said reaching out for her.
“Okay,” Marrissa said as she went to Drew.
“Holli, is that you,” Jennifer asked from around the corner.
“Yeah, we’re coming.” Holli answered. As they entered the kitchen everyone stopped what they were doing. “Everyone, I would like you all to meet my boyfriend Drew Lachey. Drew, this is my dad, Gary, my step-mom Jennifer, my oldest sister Stephanie, and my niece Alexas.”
“Nice to meet you all. I’ve heard a lot about you.” Drew said.
“It’s nice to meet you, Drew,” dad said stepping up to shake Drew’s hand.
“Holli, may I speak to you in my room,” Stephanie asked.
“Sure thing, sis. I’ll be right back.” After they got to the back Stephanie pulled Holli into the room and shut the door.
“Holli, do you have an idea who that guy is you just brought home?”
“Of course, I do, silly,” Holli said laughing.
“This can’t be real. My sister dating a member of 98 Degrees.”
“It shouldn’t be that hard to believe. We’ve been together since November. He’s who I spent Christmas with.”
“Okay, I didn’t mean to offend you. I just thought…”
“Oh, never mind, lets just go join everyone else.”
When they got back to the living room, they found everyone enjoying themselves.
Chapter 6
“Holli, is it not time for you to leave for class?”
“Oh my goodness. Thank you, Melodie.”
“What’s wrong, Holli, I’ve never seen you like this?”
“I’m just worried about mid-terms. I’ll see you tomorrow.”
As the week went on, Holli calmed down and began looking forward to Friday. On Friday Holli left work early and headed to the dorms to finish getting her stuff. When Holli arrived, Shelbie was leaving. “Have fun, Hol, and tell the guys I said hi.”
“I will. A message for anyone else?”
“No! Don’t you say a word to Justin either.”
“Okay, I promise. See you next Monday.” Holli went in and grabbed her stuff so she could get to the airport on time.
What was suppose to be a three hour trip turned into a six and a half hour trip. When she finally reached her destination all Holli wanted to do was get to Drew’s and collapse. She found Sondra there waiting on her.
“Hey, Son. Where’s Drew at?”
“Hey, yourself. Their flight was delayed, so he called and asked me to pick you up.”
“Oh, okay. Well, I’m exhausted; let’s get my bags and go.”
“Alright. Do you have a key or do you need to stay with me until they get in?”
“I have a key. Do you know what time they’ll be in?”
“Nope. Come on; you look ready to drop.”
As they went to get Holli’s bags, they talked about the wedding plans. When Holli got to Drew’s she called his cell phone to let him know she was in. Nick answered.
“Hey, Nick. Where are you all at?”
“We’re about to land in Cincinnati. Do you want me to wake Drew?”
“No, that’s okay. Just let him know I just made it in and that I’m going to crash.”
“Alright, Holl, I’ll tell him. Take care.” Holli hung up, then changed into her night gown and curled up in bed. When Drew came in, he quietly undressed down to his boxers and slid into bed beside her and she curled up next to him automatically.
The next morning when Holli woke up she felt an arm around her waist and smiled. When she rolled over, she saw Drew close his eyes.
When they finally got up, they decided to spend the day around the apartment just being together. On Sunday morning Holli and Drew met everyone at church and then went out to eat together.
“So how have you all been doing?”
“Good, but busy. But we’re taking time off,” Justin said.
The week flew by. Holli spent a lot of time helping Sondra with wedding plans. They also spent time looking for a bigger place for Drew to live. In no time at all it was Saturday and time for her to head back to college.
Chapter 7
“Holli, telephone call,” Shel shouted. Sticking her head out of Ms. Judy’s door Holli asked who it was. “It’s Drew. Who else?”
“I’ll be right back y’all,” Holli said as she left the room.
“Yeah, cool. She’s in Ms. Judy’s room…Oh okay…Here she is, talk to you later.” Taking the phone from Shelbie Holli grinned.
“Hey sweetie. What’s up?”
“Not much. I was just wondering what time you got off work tomorrow.”
“I get off at five. Why are you wondering?”
“Well, I’m on my way to Arkansas. I wanted to go ahead and bring up a load of your stuff. Is that okay?”
“That’s fine. I should be home by around six. If you beat me there, just ask Aunt Jane for the extra key.” The next day Holli just couldn’t wait for five to get there. When she got to Des Arc, she stopped at Scott’s and ordered supper for the two of them. She was looking forward to this weekend as much as she always did.
Finals week rolled upon Holli before she was ready. Everything was going crazy with packing and studying. As Shelbie and Holli left their last final, Shel asked, “Are you leaving today or tomorrow?”
“Tomorrow late probably. When are you checking out?”
“Tomorrow at twelve. We should go do something tonight to celebrate the end of another semester and your leaving.”
“Sounds good to me.”
Chapter 8
“What are you reading, little brother,” Nick asked.
“Just an email from Holli. She is so glad she’s done for the semester.”
“Tell her I said hi and I’ll see her when we drive down to move her up.”
“Okay I will. Where you off to?”
“Just going to pick Jess up. See you later.”
The next morning Holli and Shelbie both slept in. When they finally got up, they finished loading up and checked out. Before they left Holli gave Shelbie her new address.
“Promise you’ll write, Shel. We’ve been friends too long to lose touch now.”
“Yeah we’ve been friends for a long time. I wish you could stay here for our last year.”
“I just can’t stand being away from Drew all the time. I mean it would be different if we were only a few minutes or hours apart, but it’s closer to twelve hours instead.”
“I understand. Well, I’ve got to be at work in an hour; so, I guess I better go.”
“Okay, see you later. Have a great summer.”
“You too. Tell everyone I said hi.”
Chapter 9
When Holli got home, there was a strange car in the drive. When she got out Aunt Jane came out of her house followed by a man.
“Holli, this is Mr. Sharp. He has something important to talk to you about.”
“Nice to meet you, Mr. Sharp. Follow me in, sir.” Once inside Holli went to set her stuff down and motioned for him to have a seat. Coming back and sitting down she asked, “How may I help you?”
“Well, Miss Culbreath, I am here to talk to you about Miss BriAnna Fitts. She is the daughter of the late Jenni and Eric Fitts. In their will they named you guardian of BriAnna.”
“No one is contesting this?”
“No ma’am. The child has no other living relatives. If you cannot take her, she will become a ward of the state.”
“Oh my, this is such a shock. How old is BriAnna?”
“She will be seven months old the twentieth of this month. I can answer any questions you might have.”
“How is her health?”
“She is in perfect health. She has had all her baby shots.”
“How long do I have to decide? Because I really need to talk to my boyfriend before I can make a decision on this.”
“You have until the twenty-fifth to make up your mind. If you would like to see her just let me know and I’ll arrange it. Any other questions?”
“Not that I can think of right now.”
“Okay then, here is my card. I’ll see myself out.”
“Thank you sir. I’ll get back to you as soon as I can.” After Mr. Sharp left Holli called Drew.
“Hey I’m not in right now. Leave me a message and I’ll get back to you.”
“Hey sweetie. It’s me. I’ve got something I need to talk to you about. Call me as soon as you get this please.” After she hung up, Holli went out and started unloading the car. Later that afternoon Drew called.
“What’s up, babe?”
“Hey sweetie. Have I ever got news for you.”
“What is it Hol? You sounded upset in your message.”
“I wasn’t upset; I was still in shock. Do you remember the news clipping Aunt Jane sent over when you were down in February?”
“Yeah, that friend of yours was killed right?’
“Yeah, well her and her husband named me guardian of their daughter.”
“They what!?”
“That was my reaction. I have until the twenty-fifth to decide if I want to take her. And I wanted to talk to you before I made my decision. Since this is going to affect both of us.”
“Baby, whatever decision you make is fine, but can I let you know after I’ve had some time to think?”
“That’s fine and then when you come down maybe we can go see her.”
Chapter 10
After he hung up, Drew’s shock finally hit him. It had been so long since he had taken care of a baby that he wasn’t sure he’d even remember how. Besides, did he really want to help raise someone else’s child? He decided to call and see if Nick was home.
“Jess, is Nick there?”
“Just a minute Drew, let me go get him.”
“What’s up, little brother?”
“Can you come over? I need to talk to you.”
“Sure thing, is anything wrong?”
“No, nothing is wrong; I just need your advice.”
“Okay, I’ll be there in a few.” When Nick arrived they went out on the patio and Drew told Nick the whole story. “So what do you think?”
“Honestly, Drew, I don’t know what to think. This is all such a shock.”
“You’re telling me. I don’t know what to tell Holli and I know it should be a decision we make together. The only thing is that if Hol doesn’t taker her, then she would become a ward of the state.”
“That would make it rough. I can see both sides of the dilemma. But first you need to do some soul searching.”
“What do you mean by that?”
“Well, first off how do you feel about Holli?’
“What do you think Nick? I love her.”
“Okay then, where do you see this relationship going?”
“I really think she’s the one. I’m thinking about asking her to marry me at Christmas.”
“That’s wonderful, and I’m happy for you. Now, do you love her enough to accept all of her?”
“Now you’re talking crazy big brother. What do you mean?”
“Well, what I know of Holli, she has a big heart, and I don’t think that there is anyway she will not take that child in. Even if that means losing you.”
“Yeah, I guess her heart is what I love most about her. But this is all still so much to take in. I mean we’ll have an instant family even before we marry.”
“That’s what you’re going to have to think about. Can you accept all of her, which includes BriAnna.? You know, that no matter what we will all support your decision.”
“Yeah, I know that. And I really do love her and I believe I will grow to love BriAnna.”
“Then your decision is made?”
“I think so. Thanks for helping me work through all of this.”
“That’s what I’m here for.” After Nick left, Drew decided to wait until the next day to call Holli.
Chapter 11
By the next morning Holli had decided to go see BriAnna and take it one step at a time from there. So she gave Mr. Sharp time to get to the office, then quickly got ready and left. When she got to the foster home she began getting nervous and wishing she had waited until Drew was down. She went in and was talking to the foster father when BriAnna was brought in. That’s when it hit Holli, she knew that there was no way she could walk away from this child. She spent most of the morning there with BriAnna. When she left she had made her decision. She would take her in no matter what, even if that meant giving up the one person she lived for. She went home to finish up the packing that needed to be done. That afternoon when Drew called it took both of them a while to bring up the subject.
“Drew, have you thought about us taking Bri in? I went and saw her today and I just don’t think I can turn my back on her.”
“Well, I have done a lot of thinking and I’ve decided that if you want to take her in that is fine with me. I love you and I know I can love anyone you do.”
“Oh Drew…”
“I’ll be in Monday morning and maybe that afternoon we can go see her together and begin taking care of the paper work.”
“That sounds wonderful sweetheart.”
“As long as your happy babe. Is there anything I’m going to need to get for her?”
“I don’t know right now. We can just go shopping once I get moved up there.”
“Okay, well, we’re having Jeff’s bachelor party tonight since his brother is in town. I’ll talk to you tomorrow. Love you.”
“Love you too. Have fun and be careful.”
Chapter 12
Holli spent the weekend cleaning and packing. Early Monday morning Holli was woke up by the phone ringing. “Hello.”
“Good morning, beautiful. We’re taking the exit now. I just wanted to call and let you know. See you in about ten minutes. Bye.” Holli hung up and rolled over to look at the clock. She groaned when she realized it was only six thirty. He hadn’t been joking about getting there early. Holli got out of bed and quickly dressed. She had just started coffee when everybody walked in. Everyone sat down and waited for the coffee and afterwards they asked about sleeping arrangements. Holli quickly pointed them in the right directions and all but Sondra went to bed. As Holli started her some breakfast she asked Sondra how the trip was.
“Okay I guess, I slept most of the way. Drew told us about the baby. Are you excited?”
“Yeah, I am. I’m suppose to go get her this morning, Drew was suppose to go, but I’ll probably let him sleep since they drove all night.”
“Are you looking forward to the move?”
Turning to smile at Sondra, Holli said, ”Yeah, I mean I’m excited, but I’m really going to miss my friends and family.”
“I completely understand. Remember I did this very thing a couple years ago.” As she came back to sit down, Holli asked, “So how are wedding plans going?”
“Good, but honestly I’m ready for it to be over with.”
“Where are you two going on your honeymoon?”
“Well at first we were going to Switzerland, but decided on Hawaii instead.”
“That sounds really nice.” The morning was spent going over wedding plans and catching up. Before Holli was to leave, she went in and woke Drew up.
“Sweetie, I’m going to go to Brinkley to get BriAnna. Do you want to go?”
“What time is it?”
“It’s about 9:30. If you want to sleep, I completely understand.”
“If it’s okay, I think I’ll sleep. I’m exhausted”
Leaning down to kiss him, Holli grinned and said, “That’s fine. Go back to sleep.”
When Holli arrived, she was told to go right on in. When all the forms were filled out, Holli left the office with Bri and headed to Wal-Mart to get a few things for Bri. It was almost one before they got home. Carrying a sleeping BriAnna in, she found that Sondra, Jeff, and Drew were the only ones up.
“While I put her down, could you guys get the rest of the bags out of the car?”
“Sure thing.” The guys headed outside while Sondra followed Holli to the back.
“Oh, Holli, she is adorable.”
“See why I couldn’t walk away from her? She smiled at me and my heart crumbled.”
“I can definitely see why. What would you have done if Drew would have objected?”
“I don’t know if I could have stood that, but I was prepared to end things if it had come to that.”
“Oh, Holli, you would have been miserable.”
“Yeah, but Jenni wanted me to take Bri in and I couldn’t walk away from that.”
“I understand. I would have probably done the same thing if I would have been put in that situation.”
“You would have done what, Son?”
Turning around to see Jeff and Drew in the doorway, Sondra replied, “Take in the baby.”
“Okay, Holl, where do you want all of this?”
“You can put it all in here. Except for the playpen that we’ve got to put together.”
As they walked back in the living room, Nick and Justin were coming up from the other side. “You two are up just in time for the fun part.” Drew said jokingly.
Looking up questionably, Nick asked, “What do you mean?”
Laughing Holli replied, “We’re about to attempt putting BriAnna’s playpen together.”
“Oh what fun.” Justin said sarcastically.
The afternoon was spent putting together the playpen and playing with Bri. About five, Holli called in an order for pizza. When Sondra and Holli left to go pick up the pizza, they left Bri in the capable hands of the guys. When they got out to the Explorer Holli said, “You know, Son, I think that Bri is going to be spoiled by her daddy and all her uncles.”
“I know, but wait until you see the nursery at you all’s house.” Sondra replied.
“What do you mean?” Holli asked questioningly.
“You’ll just have to wait and see.” Sondra said with a laugh.
Chapter 13
The next day they all went down to the river to swim and for a picnic. About twelve, Holli’s dad and family showed up. Handing Bri to Drew, Holli got out of the water to go greet them.
“Hi, daddy. How did y’all find us?”
“Jane told us where y’all were planning on spending the day.”
“That’s good. You’re just in time for lunch.” Turning to Justin, who was manning the grill, Holli said, “Justin, can you put five more burgers on please?”
“Sure thing, everybody just want one?”
“Yeah for now anyway. Where’s Jennifer, Stephanie, and the girls?”
“They’re changing, they should be here in a few. Who are all these guys?”
“I’ll make introductions in a minute, but…”
“Sissy, Aunt Holli!!”
“Whoa slow down. Hey munchkins.”
“Hey, Sis. Is that who I think it is?”
“Yes, Steph, but give me time and I’ll make introductions. Follow me.”
By the time they made it down to the water, everyone was drying off for lunch. “Everybody, I would like you to meet my family. This is my dad, Gary, my step-mom, Jennifer, my sisters, Stephanie and Marrissa, and my niece Alexas.” Taking Bri from Drew, Holli turned to her dad, and “This is the first person I want you all to meet. This is my daughter, BriAnna. Her adoption should be finalized soon.”
“She was Jenni and Eric’s daughter, right?” Dad asked.
“Yes, but now she’s mine and Drew’s. Now, let me introduce everyone else. The one finishing up lunch is Justin Jeffre.” Turning to everyone else Holli continued, “This is Sondra Plemmons, Jeff Timmons, and Nick Lachey. Dad, you remember Sondra, don’t you. She was a year a head of me down at Gillett.”
“Yeah, I thought the name sounded familiar. It’s nice to meet all of you.”
The rest of the afternoon was spent getting to know each other and swimming. Before Holli’s dad left, he asked to talk to her.
“Holli-dolly, you know that I’m not pleased about you moving in with Drew, but you are twenty-one, so there’s not much I can do. But please be careful. If you need anything, call me. When do you leave for Cincinnati?”
“We leave Thursday morning. We should get there late Friday night or early Saturday morning.”
“Okay, call Saturday to let me know you made it. Take care, pumpkin.”
“I’ll call. Love you, Daddy.”
“Love you too. Now, go back to your friends and daughter.”
When they got back to the trailer, Holli gave a tired Bri a bath before tucking her into bed. When she got back to the living room, she asked, “Did y’all leave me any hot water for a shower?”
“There may be a little left. What movies do you want to watch? Justin and I are going to run to the movie place.” Drew replied.
Leaving the room to go get a shower, she answered, “I don’t care.” By the time the guys got back, Jeff and Nick had the stuff for sandwiches out. When they got their plates fixed they headed to the living room to start the movies. When they turned in for the night, Holli and Drew laid in bed and talked for a while. They finally drifted off to sleep about an hour later.
Drew was the first to awaken by Bri’s soft crying. He silently slid out of bed; pulled on his robe and went to check on her. As he bent down to pick her up, he whispered, “Ssh, Bri. You don’t want to wake up mommy.” He quickly changed her diaper and realized she must be hungry. He quietly went into the kitchen and retrieved a bottle. When Bri finished her bottle, she went right on back to sleep. He placed her back in the playpen. When Drew crawled back in bed, Holli naturally curled up next to him. The next morning while Sondra and Holli took the movies back, the guys started loading the stuff that wouldn’t be needed into the other two vehicles. After that was done the rest of the day was spent giving the trailer a good cleaning. When they finished cleaning everyone turned in early. After Holli finally got Bri down, she found Drew already asleep. She laughed to herself and crawled in next to him. When the alarm went off at five the next morning, everyone got up and finished loading the vehicles.
The long drive was made with frequent stops to stretch and switch drivers. They finally pulled into Holli and Drew’s about seven on Friday night. When all Holli’s stuff was unloaded, everyone headed to their own apartments. While Bri was playing, Drew covered Holli’s eyes and led her down the hall. “Where are you taking me?”
“Just a minute and you’ll see. Remember when you told me we could get the stuff for Bri’s room later?”
“Yeah I figured we can do it sometime this week. That way you didn’t have to do it by yourself.”
Turning Holli into the nursery Drew removed his hands and said, “Well, surprise. The guys all chipped in.”
“Oh my, this is wonderful. I can’t believe y’all did all of this.”
“We did it cause we all care for you. If there is anything you don’t like we can change it.”
“No, I love all of this. It’s perfect.”
Chapter 14
“Drew, are you about ready? Josie’s plane is due in an hour.”
“Yep, lets go. Your car or mine?” Drew asked as he picked up Bri, who was reaching for him.
“The car seat is in yours, but will there be enough room in the back for Josie’s stuff?”
“There should be plenty of room. Surely she won’t bring that much stuff.”
“Okay, then let’s go.”
They got to the airport and found the correct gate. When Josie saw them, she came running. After the hugs were finished, Drew introduced Josie to BriAnna.
Taking Bri from Holli, Josie began talking to her and Bri just smiled.
As they walked out to the car, Josie asked, “So what’s the plans for the week?”
“Well, tomorrow afternoon you have to go have a fitting for your dress, because final fittings are next week. Other than that I don’t know.” Holli answered.
When the got back to the house, Holli started lunch while Drew put Bri down for a nap and Josie put her stuff away.
After lunch Drew left for the studio and the girls set down to talk.
“So, how did your second semester go?” Holli asked Josie.
“It was okay. Prom was the best.”
“Did you bring pictures?”
“Yeah, they’re in my bag. Holli, you will never believe what has happened. I now have a boyfriend, but that’s not what’s so odd. The odd fact is that he has been my best friend since we’ve been in school.”
“That’s great. Go get your pictures so I can see him. What’s his name?”
“His name is Jeremy. I’ll be right back.”
“Okay, I’m going to go check on Bri.” When Holli walked into the nursery, Bri was sitting in her crib playing.
“Well silly goose, I didn’t figure you were awake yet. I bet you’re hungry, aren’t you.” Picking Bri up Holli headed to the kitchen to feed her.
“Holli, where are you?” Josie asked.
“Sorry Jos, I’m in the kitchen feeding Bri.”
The afternoon was spent looking at pictures and talking. Around four Drew called and asked them to meet him and Nick at Chili’s for supper. So they quickly got ready and left.
On Thursday, Holli and Josie met Sondra and they spent the day making bouquets and decorations.
Monday Drew agreed to keep Bri since they all had to go for final fittings on their dresses. They came back about four and Drew asked if they wanted to go to a baseball game. Josie didn’t, because Jeremy was suppose to call, so she agreed to watch Bri. The next two weeks were busy with last minute wedding planning and roadblocks.
Chapter 15
On the following Monday, Drew brought Holli a big envelope. “This just came in the mail sweetie.”
“What is it?”
“It’s from Mr. Sharp’s office. Maybe the adoption is final.”
Taking the envelope Holli sat down and opened it quickly. She read through all the papers and when she got to the last page she turned it around for Drew to see.
“Well, its final, baby. Here is her birth certificate.”
“That’s wonderful. We need to celebrate.”
“We can at the picnic tomorrow.”
The next morning they got up and all headed to the park for the picnic. They spent the day together, with everyone spending time and playing with BriAnna. When it got dark, a spectacular fireworks show started. As they all parted ways Sondra reminded Holli, “Don’t forget we have to be at Marci’s in the morning at nine.”
“Okay, I’ll be there.” After the final fitting for Sondra’s dress they headed to the airport to get Kaitlin and Zac. That night Nick decided that he would take Zac and Kaitlin home with him.
“Drew, can you keep the kids for me while we’re at the bridesmaid luncheon?”
“Sure, is Nick bringing the other two over?”
“Don’t know, I figured he was since you all have to work.”
“We’re not working again until after the wedding.”
“Oh, I see. Good, that will let Nick and you spend time with your sisters and brother.”

Chapter 16
“Okay, everybody line up to go in. Let’s see if we can get this the first time. Remember to count please.”
“Sondra, calm down. We all know what to do. We’ll be fine.” Jessica said.
“I’m sorry guys. I’m just stressed out.”
“Relax and have fun, Son. Everything will be fine.”
“I know, Hol, but you know me. I’m a perfectionist.”
They quickly ran through everything and then wet to Barresi’s for dinner. After dinner Jeff and Sondra gave everyone their gifts. Jeff got the guys engraved mugs and cuff links. Sondra got her attendants engraved jewelry boxes and jewelry to wear the next day.
Since the guys had already had their bachelor party, Nick and Drew agreed to keep the kids. For the bachelorette party they headed to Sondra’s apartment since Jeff was staying at Justin’s for the night. They spent the night as a large slumber part. By about midnight they all had enough to drink to easily go to sleep.

Chapter 17
The next morning began with a flourish of activity. They all quickly showered and dressed to head to the salon, where they were all getting their hair, makeup and nails done. When they got back to the apartment, they grabbed a quick bite to eat, then headed to the church. They had just finished helping Sondra into her dress when there was a knock on the door. Jess went to see who it was.
“Holli, its Drew and your daughter.”
“Sorry to bother you, but I can’t get her to let me brush her hair.”
Laughing Holli took Bri and said, “That’s okay. She can stay with us until your dad gets here.”
After pictures Holli changed Bri and then handed her off to Drew’s dad. As they lined up to go in Drew leaned over and whispered, “You look absolutely beautiful darling.”
“Thank you. You look quite handsome yourself.”
Both the ceremony and reception were beautiful. When it was time for them to leave, Holli helped Sondra change.
“Son, you looked wonderful. I’m so happy for you.”
“Thank you. Don’t feel bad, your day is coming before long.”
“Yeah, but he has to propose first.”
“He will before long surely.”
“I hope so. Well, lets go.”
After they got back out front and time for Sondra to toss her bouquet. With all the unmarried women on the floor, Sondra tossed the bouquet and it landed right in Holli’s hands.

Growing in Love
Chapter 1
“Drew, I’m changing Bri, would you go answer the door?”
“Sure thing. Hold your horses I’m coming.” Drew opened the door just as Justin was walking away.
“Hey, Justin!”
“I didn’t think you all were home.”
“Sorry about that. I was in the back and Hol was busy changing Bri. Come on in.”
“I just wanted to talk to you about uh something.” Holli came in with Bri who started reaching for Drew. “Hi, Justin. You’re just in time for supper. I decided I wanted to try a new recipe.”
Getting up to get Bri and hug Holli, Drew said, “Oh no, you better run while you still can.” With that they all started laughing.
“Watch it, mister, or you’ll be sleeping on the couch tonight,” Holli said jokingly as she continued on into the kitchen.
“So, what did you want to talk about?”
“Well, its actually about somebody. Is there somewhere else we could go?”
“Yeah, we can go out on the deck. Let me tell Holli, you take Bri and go on out.” Drew headed to the kitchen as Justin and Bri headed outside. He stopped and picked up the walker for Bri on his way out. When he got the baby settled and closed the gate, Drew spoke to Justin, and "Okay we're alone. What’s on your mind?”
“Well, its about Holli’s friend Shelbie. I don’t know if you would know or not, but…”
“Come on spit it out.”
“Well, uh…I was wondering if umm you knew if she was dating anyone?”
“Last Holli heard she wasn’t. Why do you ask?”
“Uh…”
“I’ll ask next time I talk to her, so you can know for sure.”
“Okay, but don’t say anything about this.” About that time Holli came out carrying plates with food. “Drew, can you help me bring the rest out and the high chair.”
“Sure thing, babe. Help yourself, Justin.” After they finished eating, Drew and Justin did the dishes while Holli gave Bri a bath. Later on, after Justin had left, Drew told Holli what Justin had wanted.
“I think its time to put your matchmaking scheme to work.”
“Why do you say that?”
“Well, that’s what he wanted to talk to me about. He asked if I knew if she was seeing anyone.”
“Its about time. Next time I talk to her I’ll start leaving hints and try to find out if she still likes him.”
"Okay. Hand me Bri and I'll put her to bed. Do you want me to keep her in the morning while you register?"
"If you don't mind. It shouldn't take me long."
"Of course I don't mind." When he came back from putting the baby down, they curled up on the couch to watch Cruel Intentions.

Chapter 2
The next morning Holli woke up to the smell of breakfast being cooked. Grabbing her robe she sleepily walked down the hall to check on Bri before heading to the kitchen. What she found was an empty crib. As she entered the kitchen what she saw made her wish she had the camera. Sitting at the table was Drew in only his boxers feeding Bri her breakfast. She was walking up behind him o give him a hug when Bri saw her. "Momma." Drew turned around with a grin. "Good morning, sweetheart. Breakfast is on the stove." Giving him and Bri a quick kiss Holli turned toward the stove.
"You should have woke me up when she got up.”
“You were sleeping good. I didn’t want to bother you.”
“Thank you for feeding her and cooking breakfast. It smells wonderful.”
“Do you know what classes you’ve got to sign up for yet?”
“Nope, I have to talk to Dr. Laney before I register. He’s supposed to help me.”
“That’s good. Well, if you’ll eat and get her dressed, I’m going to get a shower.”
“Okay, just don’t use all the hot water.” She wiped Bri’s mouth and hands and set her in the floor to play while she ate. She was brushing Bri’s hair when Drew came into the nursery.
“You know, you two make a beautiful picture sitting there like that. If I didn’t know, I would swear she was yours. She looks so much like you.”
“Thank you. I just wish I had gotten her under different circumstances.”
“Did you and her mom look a lot alike?”
“Yeah, I’ll have to show you some pictures. Jenni and me passed as sisters many times. She was just a little taller than me.” Holli began thinking of all the stunts her, Jenni, and Shelbie had pulled in high school. “Well, I guess I need to go get ready now.”
“Bri, give Momma a bye kiss and we’ll go see Uncle Nick.” Kissing Bri bye Holli got up to go get ready. Drew set Bri down and put his arms around Holli’s waist pulling her close for a hungry kiss of his own. As she walked out of the room Holli remembered the car seat was in the Explorer. “Why don’t you take the Explorer and leave your car for me?”
“Why would I do that?”
“So you won’t have to move the car seat.”
“Good reason. We’ll meet you at Nick’s for lunch about 1:00 okay.”
“Okay, see you then.” As she got ready she started thinking of how blessed she had been. Even now she was blessed with a magnificent boyfriend and a sweet little girl. When she reached Dr. Laney’s office he quickly helped her get in the classes that she needed and then directed her to the campus daycare where she enrolled Bri. Holli decided to go ahead since she had the time and went shopping for part of the stuff they would need for Drew’s party. She also found an id bracelet that she thought would be perfect for Drew. On the back she had it inscribed with “For my darling with love.” She also found him a computer program that he had been wanting. When she arrived at Nick’s, they were waiting on her. “So, did you get in all your classes,” Drew asked.
“Yeah, I even got Bri into the campus daycare. Nick, I’ve got some of the stuff in the car that Jess wanted me to get her.”
“Okay, I’ll get it before you leave.” They enjoyed a nice lunch together and then Nick and Drew started working on a new song while Holli cleaned up. “I hate to interrupt, but, Nick, don’t forget to get that stuff out of Drew’s car. I’m heading home to put Bri down for a nap.”
“Okay, I won’t forget.”
“I’ll be right back, bro. I’m going to walk them out.”
Chapter 3
Holli hurried down the hall to answer the phone. “Hello?”
“Sis, is there anyway you can come home?”
“What’s wrong, Steph?”
“Nannie’s sick. They just rushed her to Little Rock.”
“Do they know what it is?”
“Nope, but you may want to get in as soon as you can.”
“Alright, I’ll make the arrangements and call you back.” Holli hung up the phone and a hundred things started running through her mind. First she had to get a hold of Drew. She tried his cell first and he picked up after the first ring. “Hello, its your quarter.”
“Sweetheart, is there anyway you can come home?”
“What’s wrong, babe? You okay? Bri sick?”
“We’re both fine, but I need to make arrangements to get home to Arkansas. They’ve taken my grandmother to the hospital and they don’t know what’s wrong.”
“Uh…call the airport and get you and Bri a ticket. I can’t go this time, were in the studio tomorrow. But give me fifteen minutes and I’ll be home.”
“Alright, drive careful.” When Drew came in Holli was busy packing. She hadn’t even heard him come in. He walked up behind her and pulled her into his arms. “Have you talked to your family anymore?”
“Yeah, they think she’s went into kidney failure but they don’t know for sure.”
“I’m sorry baby. I wish I could go with you, but I can’t.”
“Well, can you run us to the airport?”
“Of course. I hate seeing you like this. Is there anything I can do for you?”
“No, I’ll be fine once I get to see her.”
“Okay, do you have everything you need for you and the baby?”
“I think so. Let’s go.” When they arrived at the airport Drew waited with them until it was time for them to board. Before Holli and Bri left Drew kissed them both. “Call me when you find out more and let me know where you’re staying. I love you.”
“I’ll call; don’t worry. I love you too.” Holli’s dad met them that night at the airport in Little Rock.
“So, how is Nannie doing?” Holli asked.
“It doesn’t look good, pumpkin.”
“Do they know what’s wrong yet?”
“It’s her kidneys. They’ve found a donor, but they’re debating on whether she can pull through surgery. We’re going to stop at the hotel first so you can drop your bags off.”
“That’s fine. I need to call Drew anyway.” When they got to the hotel, Holli called Drew while her dad played with Bri. When they arrived at the hospital, a pair of teary-eyed sisters and a cousin met Holli. Jennifer took Bri so Holli and her dad could go see Nannie. Dr. Huntley and Dr. Graves came back out with them.
“Well, we’ve got her on dialysis right now. Although, we do have a donor kidney waiting, if you all give the okay we will proceed. Dr. Huntley will be there also.”
“Dr. Graves, what are the chances she’ll pull through this?” Aunt Jane asked.
“The chances are good or we wouldn’t even suggest it. Do any of the rest of you have questions? If not I’m going to need either your signature Mr. Culbreath or yours Ms. Clement on the release from.” While her dad went to sign the needed forms, Holli went to call Drew to let him know what was going on. When he finally answered, she filled him in. “So when will they do the surgery?”
“As soon as they get an open operating room. Drew, she looks so bad. When I went in to see her I almost didn’t recognize her,” Holli said as she began to cry softly.
“Oh baby, I’m sorry. I’m going to try to get in by Wednesday at least.”
“You don’t have to do that, sweetie. You’ve got to work.”
“Yeah, but I also need to be with you and Bri right now. The guys will understand.”
“Okay, call me and let me know when you’ll be in. Love you.”
“I’ll call your cell. Let me know how surgery goes, and give Bri a kiss for me. Love you too. Bye”
Now all they could do was sit and wait. Holli and Stephanie decided to take all the kids to the hotel and put them to bed. Their dad promised to call as soon as they got any word.
Chapter 4
The next morning Holli was woke up by the sound of her phone ringing. “Hello.”
“Good morning, Hol.”
“Good morning Drew. Were you able to get away.”
“Yeah, the plane will be in tonight at seven. How’s your grandma doing?”
“I don’t know yet; Dad hasn’t called.” About that time the hotel phone rang. Stephanie got up to answer it. “…okay…that’s good news…yeah, we’ll be over before long.”
“Drew, hold on a minute. I think Steph just talked to dad.”
“Okay, go find out.”
“Steph, was that dad?”
“No, but it was Jennifer. Nannie pulled through fine. Her heart did wonderful. She’s in recovery now. The only thing to worry about now is rejection.”
“That’s good. I’ll be off the phone in a minute and we can get the kids ready and head over.”
“Okay, I’m going down to see what they served for breakfast. I’ll bring you something back.”
“Thanks. Drew, you still there?”
“Yeah, what did you find out?”
“She pulled through surgery fine. She’s in recovery now.”
“That’s good, babe. Well, I need to get to the studio so I’ll be able to make my flight and you need to go see Nannie. See you tonight.”
By the time Holli and Steph got over to the hospital, Nannie had been moved to a room. Everything was going good and around 6:15 Holli borrowed her dad’s car keys so she could go pick up Drew. When she arrived at the airport, she found out the plane would be on time so she went to find the gate. When he spotted her, he went to her with open arms. As they headed to get his bag they started talking. “How was your flight?”
“It was fine. Where’s Bri?”
“She’s with my dad and Jennifer. They were going downstairs to get something to eat.”
“Oh I see. How’s Nannie doing?”
“She’s doing good. Part of her coloring is coming back, but she still looks bad. Ready to go?”
“Yep, lets stop by the hotel so I can drop my bag off.”
“Okay.” When they arrived back at the hospital Holli took Drew in to see Nannie. As they left Drew wrapped his arm tightly around Holli’s waist because he could tell it hurt her to see her grandmother that way. While they were waiting for an elevator, Holli’s family arrived and a half-asleep BriAnna recognized Drew and began reaching for him saying, “Me want Dada.”
By the end of the week Nannie was doing much better so Holli, Drew, and Bri left on Sunday to return to Cincinnati. Drew returned to work the next day while Holli made final preparations for Drew’s party the next night.
Chapter 5
As Drew left Tuesday morning Holli reminded him they had dinner reservations at seven that night. Around nine Holli and Bri met Sondra over at Nick’s house to begin getting things ready.
When Drew came home he found Holli in their bedroom getting ready. “Where’s Bri at? When she wasn’t in the nursery I figured she was with you.”
“She’s staying with Jeff and Sondra tonight. I’m supposed to pick her up in the morning.”
Stepping where he could reach her Drew said, “Oh I see, you mean we’re all alone tonight,” with a devilish grin.
Reaching up to put her arms around his neck, she whispered, “All alone; what ever will we do?” Then she leaned in to kiss him. What seemed like hours, but really mere seconds, Holli pulled away, a dazed but decidedly amused look appeared on her face when she saw the flushed, passion filled look on Drew’s face.
“As much as I would love to continue this enjoyable pastime with benefits, I do have reservations that we must keep.”
Drew growled as he leaned in to kiss her again. “Cancel them.”
Holli softly laughed and pressed against his chest half-heartedly. “Sorry darling, but I must insist. If we do this, I promise that the rewards for your compliance will be more than worth a small dinner.”
Drew looked at her dark eyes that twinkled at him with suppressed merriment and a warm promise. He groaned. “Quit looking at me like that or I’ll say to hell with dinner and take care of a reservation that’s been on hold for a long time.”
Holli ran her hand down the front of his chest and replied seductively, “Dinner first, dessert later.”
“Alright already. Lets go.” Drew said with a frustrated growl, grabbing Holli and heading out the door.
They got to the Explorer and Holli got in to drive. “Okay. One more rule, you have to wear a blindfold. It’s all part of the evening I’ve planned.”
Drew glanced at her and shook his head no. Holli gave him a pleading puppy look and he growled under his breath that he must be crazy and tied the offered blindfold around his eyes. As they took off, he spoke, his tone strong with promise, “Keep in mind, babe, that this blindfold may return to be used on you later.”
When they stopped outside Nick’s apartment Drew asked, “So, where are we at?”
Leading him up to the door, Holli told him he would just have to wait and see. Nick had seen them coming and opened the door. When she removed the blindfold it was completely dark, and suddenly the lights came on and everyone shouted “Surprise.”
All during the party Drew and Holli never lost eye contact. They flirted back and forth with daring looks. Catching some of the looks, Sondra and Jeff walked over to talk to Drew. With her eyes dancing with laughter, Sondra said, “I’m sorry to tell you this, but something has come up and we can’t keep Bri tonight.”
All Drew could do was glare at Sondra. Pulling Sondra close, Jeff laughingly said, “Take it easy man. She was just joking.”
Walking over to where Holli was, Drew leaned down and whispered, “Your friend is trying to ruin my night alone with you.”
Laughing, Holli turned around and while running a finger down his chest, told him “Now dear, calm down and enjoy yourself. No one is going to ruin this night.”
At one point Nick walked over to Drew and said jokingly, “You know, little bro., if you don’t quit some of those looks, Holli is going to go up in flames.”
“Shut up Nick, I’m not in the mood for your smart ass comments.”
“Take it easy, bro. The party is beginning to die down, why don’t you get Holli and go enjoy your night alone.”
“Now that, my dear brother, is the best idea you’ve had in a long time.”
When Drew found Holli, he growled, “Let’s get out of here.” With that, they headed to the door.
As soon as they entered the house, Drew pulled her into his arms and covered her mouth with his. Between one heartbeat and the next the kiss turned from light to passionate. With a murmur of need, he drew her closer, then closer still. The feel of her against him, her mouth hungry under his, went straight to his head like a fine wine. Caught up in the moment, she only pulled away long enough to lead him to the bedroom.
Then without realizing how, he was reaching for the zipper of her dress. Looking up at him with eyes dark with desire, Holli swayed toward him, ”Drew…”
Seconds later, he did a free fall with her onto the bed. Laying there with her in his arms, he leaned to kiss her and huskily said, “Tell me what you want, baby.”
Reaching up to undo the buttons of his shirt she whispered, “I want you, Drew. Only you.”
But telling him and showing him were two different things and showing him was much more enjoyable. With a husky whisper of need, she leaned in to kiss him and they were lost in each other.
Chapter 6
The next morning, after they showered together, Holli headed to meet Sondra for brunch and to pick up Bri. When she got to Primavista, she was greeted with a hug from Bri.
“So, did you enjoy your night Holli?” Sondra asked with a knowing grin.
“Yes we did. Thank you so much for keeping her. I hope she wasn’t to much trouble.”
“Of course, she wasn’t any trouble. Plus, we all knew you two needed last night. How is your grandmother doing?”
“Pretty good. I talk to my step-mom yesterday afternoon. They’re hoping she’ll be released this week.”
“Are you going to the Teen Choice Awards with the guys?”
“I don’t know. Drew’s mom said that she would keep Bri, but I don’t know. Are you going?”
“I think so. I mean, I don’t start work until September so I might as well.”
“I’ll have to miss class if I go, but I’m really thinking about it.”

Chapter 7
“Holli, its time to get up.” Drew said as he sat down on the bed beside her.
“Huh, what time is it?” Holli asked sleepily.
“Its seven o’clock, sweetie. Your first class starts at nine.”
“Okay, can you get Bri up while I take a quick shower?”
Reaching for her Drew, whispered, “I can, but I’d much rather join you.”
“Mmm, sounds wonderful.”
After they showered, Holli quickly got ready for class and dropped Bri off at daycare. Her classes were from nine until four with a break for lunch. She quickly made friends with those in her classes, but all day she was a little sad. This was one of the few times she hadn’t spent at least most of the day with Bri. When they got home, Drew had supper waiting for them.
As they ate, Drew asked about Holli’s day. “So, sweetie, are you going to be able to miss class to go to the awards with us?’
“Yeah, since I don’t have class on Tuesday’s and Thursdays there shouldn’t be a problem.”
“That’s cool. We’re going to be performing Una Noche.”
After they ate, they went to get all of Holli’s supplies for school. That week went quickly by. Then on the next Monday afternoon, they left for Los Angeles, where the Teen Choice Awards were to be held.
At the awards Jess and Nick won an award for “Where You Are” and the guys performed Una Noche.

“Hol, you about ready?”
“Yeah, sweetie, I’m coming. Get the cooler and I’ll get Bri.”
“Okay. Is everything in there?”
“It should be.”
When they got to the park, Bri immediately saw the swing set and began saying, “Me swfing momma.”
Laughing, Holli said, “In a minute, pumpkin. Lets go say hi first.”
“Otay”
It was a very enjoyable day until the guys were recognized by a group of teens. At that point, they all made a quick retreat to Justin’s place.

Chapter 8
“Bye sweetie. We’ll see you Sunday.”
“Come on, Hol. We still need to go home and get ready.”
“I know Drew, but this is the longest we’ve ever been away from her.”
Laughing, Jeff said, “Holli, its okay; you’ll see her Sunday and you know she’ll be fine with us.”
“Alright, let’s go before I decide to say forget this weekend and leave with Bri.”
“Oh no, you don’t. We’ve been looking forward to this weekend for too long babe. We’ll see you all Sunday morning Jeff.” Before Holli could protest anymore, Drew took her by the arm and led her to his car.
Once there she asked, “What time is dinner?”
“Well, we have reservations at six and then we’re going someplace special.”
“Oh, sounds interesting. Just where would that special place be?”
“You’ll just have to wait and see.”
Reaching over to put her hand on his leg she said, “I figured we’d just be staying at home tonight.”
“There will be plenty of time for that, my sweet lady. We do have all weekend.”
At dinner Holli continued asking questions about where they were going. When they left the restaurant Drew pulled out the blindfold.
“Now then, my dear, you must wear this blindfold.”
“No way, I’m going to see where you are taking me.”
“Come on, I agreed on my birthday; you can do it this time.”
When they got to the Music Hall, Drew removed the blindfold. Leaning down he lightly kissed the back of her neck and whispered, “I’ll just put this away for later tonight.”
Turning around to face him Holli asked, “Is that a promise?”
“Oh babe, you better believe it. Now lets go inside.”
When they go to their seats, Holli finally realized why there were there. “Oh my gosh, how did you get tickets for this? These tickets have been sold out for months.”
“I know the conductor of the orchestra. Happy anniversary sweetie.”
“But our anniversary’s not until November, babe.”
“Not really, we met on the eighth of October.”
“Oh yeah, so you’re starting from there?”
Leaning down to kiss her Drew said, “Of course, because after that night my heart was lost to you from then on.”
It was after midnight before they got back to the house. As soon as they got in, Drew pulled Holli into his arms, holding her tight against his hard body. Her arms automatically went around his neck, seeking out the sleek skin of this nape. He shuddered when her fingers tightened in his hair and slowly lowered his mouth to hers.
His breath caught as she reached for the first button of his shirt. Another button went the way of the first and she slipped her hand beneath his shirt and felt the heat pulsing off his skin. She unfastened the rest of the buttons and pushed the shirt off his shoulders. Her arms slid around his lean waist and she opened her mouth against him.
Drew took a step back and bent his head, brushing his lips over the sensitive skin where her neck and shoulder joined. His grip around her waist tightened while he stroked her with his tongue and teeth, tracing the cords of her throat until her knees became weak. He made a sound that was a half groan as his mouth became more demanding.
Every where he touched her skin ignited, sending surges of fire to the aching core of her body. Drew lifted Holli to his waist. Instinctively, her arms went around his neck and her legs settled on his hips. When Drew set her on the edge of the bed, he made quick work of her blouse, then his mouth continued its journey all over her upper body.
The next morning after a wonderful night together, the two decided to do a little shopping for Bri’s birthday. That night they enjoyed another phenomenal night of lovemaking.
Chapter 9
“Okay, Drew, as soon as I get out of class, I’ve got to go pick up my family at the airport. Can you handle getting everything ready here?”
“Yeah, the guys and Sondra will be here by the time you get home. What time do I need to pick up the cake?”
Grabbing her bag and Bri, Holli said, “around four,” as she headed for the door. Reaching out to grab Holli around the waist, Drew pulled her to him.
“Slow down speedy. There will be time for everything.” Leaning down to kiss her, he whispered, “I love you.” The kiss continued until Bri started patting Drew’s arm and said, “Me kiss Daddy, me kiss.”
Laughing as they pulled apart, Drew turned to BriAnna and smiled. Leaning down to kiss her on the forehead, he said, “There you go birthday girl. Have fun today.” Turning to Holli, he said, “I’ll see you tonight, sweetie. Drive careful.” Reaching up for a quick kiss, Holli told Drew bye.

“So, Holli, are you coming to study group tonight,” Marc asked as they were leaving class.
“Nope I can’t; today is my daughter’s first birthday and my family is coming in for the weekend.”
“Oh okay, maybe another time. I think the next one will be at Liz’s house.”
“What’s going to be at my house, Marc,” Liz asked as she caught up.
“Next weeks study group. I’m trying to talk Holli into coming.” Marc answered.
“Cool, you can always bring the baby too. Her and my son would have a blast.”

When Holli arrived at the airport, her family decided it would be easier to rent a car since with three car seats, there wouldn’t be room for everyone in the Explorer. As they pulled into the drive, Bri saw all of the cars and started singing something Holli and Stephanie couldn’t understand, but it sounded like “Happy Birthday.”
The evening went wonderfully. Bri received more toys than any child her age should have. As Holli and Sondra began cleaning, they started talking.
“You know Son, I think the guys are going to spoil Bri rotten.”
“I know, Holli, but maybe they’ll get it all out of their system before Jeff and I have a child.”
“Oh no. Your turn is coming. Of course, you aren’t innocent in all this. You spoil her as much if not more than the guys.”

Chapter 10
“Holli, I’m about ready to leave.”
“Hold on, sweetie, I’m coming.” When Holli walked into the room she set Bri down at her feet. Drew stooped down and gave her a hug and a kiss and told her bye. Standing up he turned to Holli and pulled her close.
“I love you, baby. You’ve got the tour schedule if you need me right?”
Placing her head on his shoulder, Holli said, “Yeah. I’m going to miss you.”
“I’ll miss you too. You knew this was coming.”
“I know, but I just wish we could put if off a little longer.”
Reaching to turn her face up to him, Drew kissed her passionately and wiped away the tears that had escaped. He continued to hold her until there was a knock on the door. “That’s probably the guys.”
“Yeah, you better go. I love you Drew.” Reaching down, Holli picked up BriAnna who had been playing at their feet. Grabbing his bags, Drew gave them both one last kiss before heading for the door. As he was leaving, he turned and said, “I love you both. I’ll call and talk to you.”
Wiping away a tear Holli turned to Bri and said, “Well, kid, I guess it just you and me for a while. Ready to go to school?”
“Daddy go bye-bye.” BriAnna said sadly.
“Yeah sweetie, Daddy had to go to work.”
On Friday Holli decided she would go to the study group since they had a big test on Monday. As they were leaving class, she got directions from Liz. “Is it okay to bring Bri?” Holli asked.
“Yeah, my husband will keep the children entertained while we study.”
“Okay, good because Drew is out of town, and I don’t want to have to bother his mother with keeping Bri.”
“That’s fine. I’ll see you around six.”
When Holli arrived at Liz’s, she saw that most of her classmates were there. As the night went on, they began to quit studying and started goofing off. As they began to break up to go their separate ways, Jean asked, “Where are we meeting next week?”
Holli volunteered, “We can meet at my house. My boyfriend is out of town on business, so it wouldn’t be any trouble.”
“That sounds cool. Holli, don’t you date a member of 98 degrees?” Linda asked.
“Yeah, they’re touring. I’ll give you all directions Monday.”
Everyone agreed and began leaving. When Holli went to get Bri, Marc followed her and offered to carry the sleeping baby.
“No, that’s okay; I can get her.”
“Okay, at least let me help with your books.”
Handing her books to him, Holli picked Bri up off the pallet. This movement woke Bri up; she turned her head and through sleepy eyes saw Marc. Not sure who he was, she asked Holli “Daddy?”
Rubbing Bri’s back she answered softly, “No, sweetheart, its not daddy. Remember, Daddy’s working.” Accepting the answer, Bri laid her head on Holli’s shoulder and went back to sleep.
Chapter 11
When they got home there was a message from Drew. “Hey, babe, its about 9:30. I just wanted to call and say I miss you. Call me when you get in. I love you. Give Bri a kiss for me.”
Grinning as she continued down the hall to put Bri in bed, Holli decided to call as soon as Bri was settled. It took another twenty minutes to get Bri settled again.
“Hello?”
“Hey, sweetheart. Sorry I missed your call.”
“That’s okay. How’s Bri doing.”
“She fine, you should see her. Her steps are getting steadier every day. Pretty soon we won’t be able to keep up with her.”
“I wish I could be there. Go out with Son tonight?”
“No, I went to a classmate’s house for study group. We’ve got a big test Monday.”
“Oh, I see.”
“How’s tour going?”
“It’s going pretty good. Sold out two already.”
“That’s good.”
“Is something wrong sweetie?”
“No, I’m just a little tired I guess.”
“Okay, have you talked to mom this week?”
“Yeah, I’m suppose to go over tomorrow to go shopping.”
“That’s good, well I guess I’ll let you go. I miss you.”
“I miss you too, babe. I love you. Talk to you later.”
“Okay, Love you too. Bye.”
After he hung up, there was a knock at the door. Getting up to answer it, Drew shouted, “Hold your horses; I’m coming.” He opened the door to see the guys all standing there.
“Hey, we’re headed to a club; you wanna go?” Justin asked.
“Nah, I guess I’ll just stay in.” Drew answered.
“Wait a minute, bro, you want to stay in? That’s not like you.”
“Well, it’s me tonight; so, drop it,” Drew snapped.
“Okay, see you later.” Jeff and Justin said in unison as they turned to leave.
“You coming Nick?” Jeff asked.
“Nah, I’ll stay I need to talk to Drew.”
“Alright, later.”
When they got back in the room, Nick asked, “Now, what the hell is the matter?”
“It’s nothing. I just don’t feel like going out.”
“That’s a bunch of bull. You can’t lie to me. Did you and Hol get in a fight over the phone?”
“No, I just miss her and Bri. I mean I’ve missed Bri’s first steps and that’s something that I won’t get to see again.”
“Are you saying you want to quit so you can be with them?”
“Hell no, I love what we do. It just upsets me that I’ll be missing a lot of the milestones in Bri’s childhood.”
“I’m sorry, man, maybe after Hol gets done with school they can travel with us for a while.”
“Yeah maybe so. Sorry I snapped at you earlier. I guess I was just missing them more than I thought and it hit after I got off the phone.”

The next day Holli and Bri spent the day with Cate and Issac. As they made a trip out to the Explorer to put some of the stuff up, Holli said, “Cate, you don’t have to buy all this for Bri. I can get the stuff she needs.”
“Oh, I know, but she’s my only granddaughter and I want to do this for you and her. Do you have a Halloween costume for her yet?”
“Not yet, I was planning on getting it today. I’m hoping to find a clown.”
“Well then, lets go.”
They spent a better part of the afternoon looking for the perfect costume. By the time they found it, Bri was asleep in the stroller and Issac was getting tired, so they decided to head home.
“Holli, why don’t I keep Bri tonight and you call Sondra and go out.”
“That sounds wonderful. You sure you don’t mind?”
“If I minded, I wouldn’t have volunteered. Now go; Bri will be fine.”
That night Holli and Sondra went to they group’s favorite club. Once there they talked and danced all night.

Chapter 12
“Holli, you about ready?”
“Yeah, Son, I’m just grabbing Bri’s bag. Speaking of Bri, is she in there with you?”
“Yeah, she’s toddling around up here.”
Walking into the living room Holli grinned at Bri and said, “Little one, come here. You sure can disappear quick.”
Giggling, Bri turned and ran into Holli’s open arms. “Are you ready to go see daddy, pumpkin?”
“Me see dadda?”
“Yeah, sweetie, we’re going to see daddy.”

When the plane landed hours later the guys greeted later Holli, Bri, Sondra, and Jessica, whom met them in Houston. Grabbing Holli and Bri, Drew pulled Holli close for a sensual kiss.
“Okay, someone pull out the fire hose on those two.”
Pulling apart breathless they turned to everyone else and Drew said, “You’re just jealous, Justin.”
“Alright enough you two, let’s head back to the hotel so the ladies can freshen up before the show,” Jeff suggested.
“Where’s the show at tonight?” Son asked.
“We’re playing the Hard Rock hotel and we’ve got the top floor reserved.” Jeff answered as he pulled Sondra close. When they arrived at the hotel, each couple went their separate ways.
That night during the concert the ladies set just off stage and watched intently. By midpoint of the concert, Bri had fell asleep and Mrs. Jeffre, who showed up took her upstairs to put her to bed. When the show was finished everyone decided to change and find a club to celebrate Nick’s birthday.
After returning from The Beach nightclub, the couples parted ways with the girls agreeing to go shopping the next morning while the guys did a video shoot. Once inside their room, Drew pulled Holli into a tight embrace.
“You know, babe, you made it pure torture out on the dance floor tonight.”
“Who? Me? I wouldn’t dream of it.” Holli said with a devilish grin.
“Uh huh, but it was sweet torture,” Drew whispered as he bent his head down to kiss her. In the next instant, he swept her up into his arms and carried her to the bed. As he gently laid her down, he whispered, “I’ve missed you baby, and I plan to show you just how much.” Then he began laying feather-like kisses on her face, then down her neck.
When he began working on the buttons of her top, she trembled at his touch. Eventually, there was no sign of where they began and ended. As the heat between them built, they reached their place of heaven together and breathlessly came back to earth as one.
When Drew rolled over onto his side, Holli snuggled up next to him and let out a soft sigh. As he continued to hold her close, they talked about different things until they drifted off to sleep.
The next morning Holli was woke up by the sound of someone knocking on the door. She quietly slid out of Drew’s embrace and grabbed Drew’s shirt to put on since her robe was still packed. When she opened the door she found Ms. Jeffre standing there with a grinning BriAnna beside her. “Sorry to bother you this early, but she’s been asking for you and Drew since she woke up.”
Running a hand through her hair Holli replied sleepily, “That’s okay. Come here, stinker.” When Ms. Jeffre let go of Bri’s hand she quickly ran into Holli’s arms. “Thanks for keeping her last night.”
“You’re more than welcome; she was a joy to keep. I’ll be at the show again tonight if you want me to keep her again.”
“Okay, it just depends on if we go out again.”
As Holli lead Bri back inside she told her, “Now sweetie daddy’s still asleep, so we gotta be quiet.” She sat the baby on the bed and turned to look in the suitcase for her robe. She had just found it when she heard Bri squeal. Turning around she saw Drew tickling her. Grinning as she returned to the bed Holli said, “Now Drew, I had just told her we had to be quiet. I was hoping she would go back to sleep.”
“What time is it darlin?”
“Its only ten after seven.” Holli said as she crawled back into bed.
“Why don’t you call and order breakfast while I grab a quick shower and then we’ll spend time playing with Bri before I go to the shoot.”
Covering up a yawn Holli reached for her robe and asked, “What do you want babe?”
After putting on his robe, he walked around the edge of the bed and gave Holli a searing kiss before whispering, “I want you, but…”
Laughing Holli pulled out of his reach and said, “I meant for breakfast.”
“Oh, I thought you meant…oh never mind. I’ll have a couple waffles, hash browns, sausage, and orange juice.” Drew said with a gleam in his eyes.
After breakfast, Holli got her shower while Drew played with Bri. About ten Drew and the guys left for their video shoot. A little later the girls left to hit the stores. When they stopped for lunch, they enjoyed the conversations and it gave their feet a break.
“How’s classes going, Hol? This is the first time in a while we’ve all been together.” Jessica stated.
“They’re going okay. I’m ready to be done though. It seems like I never have time to spend with Drew and Bri. I mean, I’ve got a mountain of homework waiting at the house, but I told myself I was going to enjoy this weekend and worry about it later. So, you going to Florida with us for Thanksgiving, Jess?”
“Yeah, I’m going to meet you all there. Where are you and Jeff going Son?
“We’re going to his brother’s place. I think any ways. About ready to go again?”
“Give me time to change the little one and I’ll be ready.”
“Okay, we’ll wait on you.” Jessica replied. When Holli and Bri returned, the group headed off to more stores. As they were heading back to the hotel they ran into the guys.
“Well ladies, did you have a good time?” asked Jeff as he helped Sondra with her packages.
“We had a wonderful time. How did the shoot go?” Holli asked.
“Went pretty good, have to go back Monday to finish up though.” Justin answered as he freed Bri from the stroller. “Come here, little bit.”
After the concert they ended up going out back to The Beach. “Holli, can I talk to you for a minute?”
“Sure, Justin. Drew, I’ll be right back. What’s up, Just?”
“Have you talked to Shelbie lately?’’
“Yeah, just last week to be exact. Why do you ask?”
“Well, I was just wondering if she seeing anyone.”
“Nope, she’s concentrating on this last semester of class right now.”
“Oh, I see. Have you thought about inviting her up for the New Year’s party?”
“I had thought about it. I was going to ask first since its going to be at your place.”
“That’s fine with me. I was just wondering.”
When Holli and Drew got back in, Drew asked, “What was Justin wanting, doll?”
“Well, he wanted to know if Shel was seeing anyone and asked me to ask her up for the party.”
“Oh, well are you going to?”
“Yeah, she’s coming up with my parents for Christmas anyway.”
“How many are we going to have at the house for the holidays?”
“Only the three of us, Step, Alexas, and Shel. Dad, Jennifer, and Marrissa are staying in a hotel.”
“They don’t need to do that! We can make room for them.”
“I know, but they insisted. They didn’t want us to be crowded.”
“I’ll talk to you dad. Now come here. I can’t believe you have to leave tomorrow.”
“I know, but we’ll be together again in a little over a week for Thanksgiving.”
The next morning Holli and Drew were once again awakened bright and early. The three of them spent the entire day together until time to head to the airport. Drew and Jeff waited with them until time to board.
Chapter 13
When Holli got home late that night, all she wanted was to get Bri settled and crawl into bed. The late nights all weekend were taking their toll. She had just turned Bri’s light out when there was a knock on the door. She started to ignore it but decided against it, she didn’t want to chance waking Bri. Pulling her robe tight she headed to the door. When she saw whom it was she immediately opened it to see what was going on.
“Marc, what on earth do you need this late?”
“I just wanted to check on you. You didn’t make it study group Friday night, so I thought something was wrong.”
“I’m fine. I was out of town all weekend with friends. I appreciate your concern, but there was no need to worry.”
“Okay, uh…Do you wanna go get something to eat?”
“Marc, its after midnight! I’m tired and I already have Bri down for the night. All I want right now is sleep!”
“Alright then, maybe another night, when you have a sitter. See you tomorrow.”
As Holli closed the door she let out a sigh and wondered what ever in the world he could have been thinking. She was happy with her life, wasn’t she? Of course she was, what was she thinking?
The next week was very hectic. BriAnna ended up staying most of it with Cate so Holli could get work done. Out of five days, Holli had at least two papers a day due, not counting two presentations. When Sondra stopped by on Friday night, they decided it would be a good night for pampering themselves after the week they had had.
“Son, if I ever see the Reader Rabbit computer game again, I think I’ll scream.”
Half-laughing Sondra asked, ”Why do you say that?”
“It’s not funny. This week I’ve had to write a software review over Reader Rabbit for grades K through 3. It’s a wonderful program, but not for adults.”
“Hey, look at the bright side, we’ve only got two days of work and school next week.”
“I know, it’s wonderful. It’s going to be weird not being with my mom’s family this year.”
By Wednesday, Holli was more than ready to head to the airport to head to Florida. When the plane landed in Miami, Holli was surprised to be greeted by Drew. As he took Bri from Holli’s arms, he gave her a searing kiss.
“How was your flight babe? Drew asked.
“It was fine. What are you already doing in? I thought you weren’t coming in until late tonight?”
“I just told you that. I wanted to surprise you.”
“Surprise me you did. How’s your family?”
“Fine, they can’t wait to see you and Bri, so let’s go.”
“Okay, Jess in yet?”
‘Yeah, she’s already at the house entertaining Kaitlin.”
When they arrived at the house Drew went to put the sleeping BriAnna down while the others greeted Holli. Later that night when Holli and Drew were in bed they started talking. “Drew, it feels so good to be next to you. The house has been so lonely without you.”
“I know baby, I’ve missed you so much. But look at it this way, I’ll be home for quiet a while after the first of the year.”
“I know, I can’t wait. Have you talked to my dad?”
“Yeah, they’ve decided to stay with us.”
“Good, I was hoping they would. I love you sweetheart.”
“I love you too darlin.” Drew said as he wrapped his arms around her and pulled her close.
Chapter 14
The next morning was a flurry of action, with cooking dinner and keeping Bri, Kaitlin, and Zac out of the kitchen. Finally it was time to watch the Macy’s Day Parade. Holli and Jess decided to take the kids in the family room to watch it while Josie and the guys cooked.
“So how have you been Jess?” Holli asked after they got the kids settled.
“Okay, but busy. How are classes going?”
“Pretty good. I’ve got a question for you.”
“Okay ask away.”
“With Nick being gone so much, have you ever had doubts about y’alls relationship?”
“Yeah, its only natural. Why do you ask? Are you having doubts?”
“In a way, I don’t know, I guess I’ve just been lonely and then I’ve got a classmate who has asked me out several times…”
“Holli, don’t worry, anybody with a brain can tell you love Drew with all your heart. And he loves you just as much if not more.”
“I know. I guess its just six-months into our relationship, we became parents, and just haven’t had enough time together alone.”
“Are you saying you regret adopting Bri?”
“Oh no, I will never regret that besides Drew, she’s the best thing in my life.”
“Well, then I don’t see a problem.”
“I don’t guess there was one. I guess I just needed to talk. Thanks.”
“Any time…”
“Aunt Jessi, up please.”
“Bri, don’t interrupt,” Holli interjected.
“I sorry Aunt Jessi.” Bri said as she reached up for Jessica to pick her up.
“That’s okay Bri.”
About an hour and a half later Drew came into the family room. “About ready to eat ladies?” Drew asked as he set down beside Holli.
“Is it ready?”
“Almost, dad’s putting the finishing touches on it now.”
“Okay, lets start herding the children into the dining room,” Holli said as she stood up.
When they got to the dining room Josie was beginning to bring stuff to the table. “Where do you all want BriAnna?” Josie asked.
“We’ll put her between Drew and I.”
“Okay, I’ll get the high chair.”
“Thanks Jos.”
When everyone was seated Mr. Lachey said grace before everyone dove into their plates. After everyone was finished Holli and Jessica offered to clean up since everyone else had cooked. About an hour later Nick stuck his head in the doorway. “Hey you two, Bri, Kaitlin, and Zac are napping and Josie is on the phone. We’re fixing to go with dad to pick out a tree. Do you all need anything?”
“Not that I can think of Nick.” Holli answered as she began putting up glasses.
“Me either sweetie. Have fun.” Jessica said as she walked over and gave him a quick kiss.
When the guys got back with the tree they had to wake everyone up. That night the group decorated the tree as a family. When they got to bed Holli curled up next to Drew and quickly fell asleep.
The next morning Holli, Josie, and Jessica hit the malls to take care of some early Christmas shopping. It was after three that afternoon before they got back to the house. When Drew and Nick saw them they came down from the ladders, where they were stringing lights onto the house to help the girls. When they got everything in Nick told Drew, “I’m glad we brought the bus on down here and the other two flew in.”
“Why do you say that?”
“I think Holli bought out all the stores. We’ll need the bus to take everything plus her and Bri back with us.”
Laughing Drew agreed. When everything was put away everyone sat down to decide arrangements for Christmas. “Okay Dad, are you all coming up?” Nick asked.
“Yeah, it’ll be the four of us, maybe five if Jeremy’s parents agree.”
“Alright, that’s fine. Y’all will be staying with Nick Dad. We’re going to have a house full.” Drew said.
“Oh you are. Who’s staying with you?”
“Well, it’ll be my dad, step-mom, two sisters, niece, and my best friend. The thing is we’ll have three, counting Bri, under the age of four.” Holli answered.
“Oh my goodness. Who’s house are we going to be at though for presents and lunch.”
“That would be our house Dad. Ours is bigger than Nick’s apartment.” Drew answered as he got up to go check on the baby. When he came back in he asked Holli, “Are you feeling okay sweetie?”
“Not really, I’ve got a headache. If you all will excuse me I think I’m going to go lay down.”
“I’ll be right back. I’m going to help her to bed,” Drew said with concern in his voice. When they made it to their room Holli laid down and asked Drew to get her headache medicine for her. When he disappeared into the bathroom Holli slipped into a pair of shorts and a T-shirt. After she took her medicine. Drew closed the blinds and turned out all the lights so Holli could sleep.
She slept until almost eight that night. When she walked into the family room she heard Bri crying. Jessica, who was rocking Bri looked up and saw Holli. She then bent her head and whispered something to Bri. Bri quickly quit crying and looked in Holli’s direction. When Jessica handed Holli Bri, Holli asked, “What’s wrong Jess?”
“She wanted to come in there with you and Drew wouldn’t let her. How’s you head?”
“It’s better, but not gone. Speaking of Drew, where is he?”
“They’re all playing cards in the dining room. Do you need anything?”
“Nah, I’m going to walk in there.”
“Alright then lets go.”
On Saturday morning the group got up to make the trip back to Cincinnati. When they got home late Sunday night Holli gave Bri a quick bath before she joined Drew in their bed. She planned on making the most of these few days he had off. The next morning Drew decided to keep Bri since he hadn’t been able to spend much time with her lately. Holli told Drew that if he would get a tree they could decorate it that night.
Chapter 15
That night after the tree was decorated and Bri was in bed Holli and Drew curled up on the couch in front of the fireplace. “You know babe, this is one of the things I miss while I’m on the road.” Drew said as he pulled Holli closer.
“I miss this too. I say we take advantage of what time we do have.”
“I agree one-hundred percent.” Drew said as he began laying soft kisses at the nape of her neck. Then Holli turned into his kisses, the heat seeped slowly through her.
As Drew pulled her onto his lap, he held nothing back. His tongue swept her mouth, slid along her teeth, teased her lips. As he stood and began carrying her down the hall to their room he room he continued teasing her lips. Just as soon as they were in their room, he gently set her down and shut the door.
When he returned to her he pulled her close for a ravenous kiss. He then loosened his hold on her and removed his sweater and hers soon followed. At that moment BriAnna began crying. Letting out a sigh Holli stepped out of his embrace. As she grabbed her robe and headed for the door, she told Drew, “We’ll continue in just a moment.”
When Holli reached the nursery and saw Bri looking very pale she quickly picked her up and began cleaning Bri up. As she headed across to the bathroom with Bri, Holli called for Drew, “While I give her a bath can you change her sheets and clean up in there please?”
“Sure, what’s wrong?”
“She got sick and spit up. Also, grab the thermometer from our bathroom.”
After getting Bri and the nursery cleaned up Holli tried to rock the baby back asleep. It was almost four before she settled back down. “Drew, I’ve got to go take a test this morning. Can you call and make an appointment for Bri with the pediatrician? She’s still got a temperature.”
“Yeah, that’s not a problem. What time is your test?”
“It’s at eleven. Then if you could pick me up we can take her to the doctor.”
“Okay, why don’t you go lay down. I’ll take care of Bri. You’ve been up all night.”
The next week Drew and the guys left again until the week before Christmas. Holli’s finals began while Cate kept the still ill Bri. By the end of the week Bri was feeling better.
On the eighteenth Holli found out that her first nine weeks of teaching would be in a kindergarten at the school that was about a block from their house. When Drew came in that afternoon Holli greeted him with a big hug and kiss.

Chapter 16
The next morning Holli got up and began cooking. Drew walked into the kitchen around ten and wrapped his arms around her waist.
“Morning sweetie,” Holli said as she turned in his arms.
“Good morning. What smells so good?”
“I’ve got an apple pie in the oven. Did you check on Bri as you came up?”
“Sure did, she’s still sound asleep.”
“That’s odd, she never sleeps this late. Maybe I should go check on her.”
“She’s fine babe, if it’ll make you feel better I’ll go wake her up and get her dressed.”
“Would you please? My family is due at any time now.”
“Okay babe. Be back in a minute.”

When Holli’s family and Shelbie arrived they house got very hectic. With six extra people in the house it got crowded, but as soon as everyone settled in it became much easier. The next few days were spent catching up and enjoying each other’s company. On Christmas Eve they all got ready and met the guys and family at church for the Christmas Eve services. After which everyone went back to Drew and Holli’s to set out Santa Claus for all the children. After all was done and everyone either left, agreeing to be back early the next morning, or went to bed, Holli and Drew sat down by the fireplace to cuddle.
“Sweetie, there is something I’ve been wanting to say, but didn’t know how to.” Drew said as he got up and walked over to where her stocking was.
“What is it Drew, you know you can tell me anything.”
After retrieving what he was looking for he went back and set down in front of her. “Well…Holli, I love you with all my heart and soul. I don’t ever want to lose you. What I’m trying to say is, Holli, will you marry me?”
It took her a minute to realize what he had just said, but as he slipped the ring onto her hand, she began to cry. Through her tears she answered, “Of course I will” and fell into his waiting arms.
“Holli, you’ve just made me the happiest man on earth.” After a few more minutes in front of fire, Drew got up and put it out and led the way to their room.
The next morning, the kids woke everybody up bright and early. Thus began the flurry of activity. When all the gifts were opened, Drew got everybody’s attention.
“Okay everybody, I’ve got an announcement to make.” He then pulled Holli close to his side and grabbed Bri with the other arm. “Last night, I asked Holli to marry me and she said yes.”
The entire group began talking at once, shouting congratulations and the like. When Holli left the room to start breakfast, Sondra, Shelbie, Jessica, and Stephanie followed. As they arrived Holli was faced with questions.
“Let me see the ring.” Sondra and Jessica said in unison.
“When did he propose?” asked Shelbie.
“Have you set a date yet?” asked Stephanie
“Hold on, one at a time.” Holli said with a laugh. “You are all acting like crazy women.” Holli showed them her ring.
“Oh my, that is gorgeous.” Stephanie said as she just stared in awe at the ring, which was a half-carat solitaire.
“He totally surprised me last night after everyone had went to bed. Apparently, he had planned for me to open it this morning, because he took it out of my stocking last night.” Holli explained as everyone kept looking at her ring. “We haven’t even had a chance to talk about a date yet. But it may be this summer after graduation.”
“I am so jealous,” Jessica said with a sigh.
“Don’t worry Jess, your time is coming.” Sondra said. “Now then, let’s get breakfast started before we get invaded by hungry men and kids.”
“Good idea Son.”
Chapter 17
The rest of the week flew by and before they realized it, it was time for Holli and Drew’s families to leave for home. As everyone was getting ready to go to Justin’s on Sunday evening Shelbie asked to talk to Holli.
“Hol, we need to talk.”
“Sure Shel, what do you need?”
“Well, its about Justin. I think he feels the same about me as I do for him, but right now it just seems so awkward.”
Laughing, Holli answered “You two are just alike, you both like each other but won’t admit it to the other. What you’re seeing in him now is what I’ve been trying to tell you was there the whole time.”
“Reasonably so, what do you expect from me. Ever since the last round with Jason, I don’t really trust my instinct.”
“You should trust them now though Shel; you’re not going to find anyone sweeter than Justin.”
“I know, it just hard for me to trust again.”
“I understand completely Shel, remember what I went threw, but you’ll never know what might have been if you don’t try.”
“Thanks for the talk Holli, it’s been a long time since we’ve been able to do this. You could always make me see things clearer.”
At the party Shelbie and Justin spent quiet a bit of time together. They even disappeared at one point. Once during the evening Drew pulled Holli into his arms and asked, “How’s my beautiful fiancée doing?”
“I’m doing wonderful. You like the sound of that don’t you?”
“What would that be?”
“The word fiancée.”
“Of course, because it means soon you will be mine forever.”
“I’ve been that since we met. Have you seen my sister lately?”
“Not in a while. Why do you ask?”
“No reason really I just wanted to see if she was enjoying herself.”
“I think Justin and Shelbie have taken matters into their own hands now.” Drew said with a laugh turning Holli around where she could see the two of them. “Well, that’s a good thing. Shelbie needs someone like Justin. He’ll be good for her.”
“Yeah, its good to see her smiling again to.”

“Okay everyone, it’s almost midnight. Grab your glass and let’s head to the balcony to watch the fireworks.” Justin said as he led Shelbie out first. When they arrived outside they found both Stephanie and Michael, Jeff’s brother already out there wrapped in a tight embrace. As the fireworks began, the five couples wrapped tighter in each other’s embrace and kissed their way into the New Year.
