Manifest Destiny

There was never a nation that existed without some sense of national destiny or purpose.
Manifest Destiny is the westward expansion of the United States. The dispute over slavery encouraged expansion because the north and south wanted states that would support their preference towards economic, political and slave policies.
Most of the Americans had a belief that the United States was destined to expand across the continent, and, if needed, force the Native Americans out of their settlements.
